You can win this.

This mobile was made with these fabric flowers, and a blue fabric butterfly. The edges on the butterfly and flowers are slightly frayed. Another picture can be found on my flickr here.

Week Twelve.

I am making a doorstop for my craft room. Here is a work in progress picture.

The doorstop is made out of a large yogurt container and is filled with sand. I am paranoid that it may somehow break and make a huge mess so as a precaution I will be covering it with duct tape. My next steps will be to 1. get some duct tape, 2. mummify the yogurt container in duct tape, and then 3. make a fabric slipcover to make it look lovely.

As always, finished project pictures will follow.

Week Eleven.

Did you guess what I was working on from my sneak peek from last Thursday?
I made a yarn wig!
yarn wigLast summer I absolutely fell in love with Violet, an art doll, made by Sarah Faber of Black Eyed Suzie. I started to make a Violet inspired wig for Halloween, but didn't finish in time. After I started working on it again I realized that this wig was not going to look like Violet's hair. I was a bit upset at first, but I am happy with how the wig turned out.

The wig is made of 4 skeins of a wool/cotton blend yarn with a little bit of fiber fill inside the buns. Originally I wanted to use purple roving that matched Violet's hair, but ended up going with the purple/white yarn.

A big thanks to Kari for her photography skills and Matt for being my Miss J.

Sandcastles in the sand.

Note: I over estimated the amount of time I had available this weekend to finish my project so look for my One A Week on Thursday.

Over the weekend I went to Portland and the coast.

sandcastleCannon Beach had their annual Sandcastle Day on Saturday.
You can see a few more pictures of the trip on my flickr here.

PS. If you know what the title of this post references you get 10 awesome points from me.

Week Ten.

The other picnic blanket I made was dibbed* by my mom. When my dad saw it he wanted one too so I made him this one.

This is a work in progress picture that I took between rain showers this weekend. I don't see myself making too many more of these because I hate attaching the snaps, but I think I want one for myself.

*I can't believe that dibs has a Wikipedia page.

Stories across the sky.

Last fall I decided to try Ponoko.com to make a clock as a gift for my math nerd friend. I also made these constellation coasters.

constellation coasters
These coasters are partial star charts. Stars are represented by the holes; larger holes are brighter stars and smaller holes are dimmer stars. I made two sets of coasters, a Northern Hemisphere set and a Southern Hemisphere set.

Week Nine.

fabric flowersThese fabric flowers were made using this tutorial from Wise Craft. You can see the detail in this picture.

It took me a while to figure out what to do with these, but now I have a plan and you will have to wait a few weeks to find out what it is.
