I watched Aztec dancers at sunrise on Saturday.

My coworker is part of an Aztec dance troop and she invited me to see them. Their costumes were fantastic, I especially love the gal's dress in the second picture.

You can see all of these photos here on my flickr (I even took some on my real camera).

Here is my embroidery progress for the August Stitch Along:

work in progress

Here you can see the stitch detail and lots-o-cat-hairs:

I am not sure if I like it or not; the pastel colors are barely visible. What should I do 1) keep on stitchin', 2) start over with different colored thread, or 3) just give up?

Sunday my sister was taking portraits of a family at Kathryn Albertson Park and while waiting for her my mom, nana, and I wandered around and took some pictures that weren't of people. Here are some iPhone Hipstamatic photos I took:

Thursday I will post my embroidery progress... I need to stitch!

My milk jug cover is complete! I did end up running out of the rainbow yarn, but finished it off with a grey 'ribbon' so that I could tie a bow. Cute!

So Many Cucumbers

Sad news: my zucchini plants died days after I made the zucchini pizza. I went a bit ballistic that afternoon and started using the insecticidal soap concentrate on the squash bugs because the dilution didn't do a thing. It did end up burning a few leaves on the spaghetti squash plants (the bugs' new home), but the plants have survived and I haven't seen another squash bug since!

In other gardening news: the cucumber plants are going crazy! I have had such a surplus of cucumbers that I can't come close to eating them all. Luckily my coworkers had no problem taking care of the last bunch of giants. I have quite a few more that need to be picked. Anybody interested in taking a few off my hands?

Here are some photos of my crops that I took last night:

bell peppers

The bell peppers haven't grown much at all and I was super surprised to find two little peppers on one plant and a tiny one on the other plant.

tomatoes

Tomatoes! So many tomatoes, but none of them are ripe yet. I can't wait for them to turn pink so I can eat them up!

cucumber flower

Cucumber blossoms are so pretty!

cucumbers

Two cucumbers. Do you want one?

nasturtium

The nasturtium have had a rough time. See that yellow-red blossom towards the right? That is my only flower and I was shocked to see it. Next year I will get those seeds in the ground right away!

corn

The corn is pathetic. I will be lucky to get two ears.

spaghetti squash

Spaghetti squash! I can't wait to eat these guys! There were a few casualties from the squash bug war, but there will be plenty of these squashes to share.

I finished the feathers and Winslow L-O-V-E-S them!

I ended up purchasing a dowel instead of finding a stick, but to spruce it up I added purple and green paint. Once I finished knitting the cord I tied it around the feathers and securely stitched it to keep it in place then stitched and glued the other end to the dowel. My finishing touch was embroidery thread tied with French Spiral Hitching around the end of the dowel for a handle.

Joined another stitchalong! This one is Feeling Stitchy's August Stitchalong where instead of following a certain pattern we are embellishing fabric!

stitchalong materials

This is the fabric and embroidery thread that I have chosen to use. I picked up a few embroidery books from the library so i can find some new stitches to try! Before I start I need to figure out what I want to make with this fabric. Here are a few of my ideas: a small bag, another sleep mask, a head scarf, or something else. What do you think? Do you have any ideas?

I have spent a little bit of time knitting the milk jug cover; I'm not nearly as far along as I hoped I would be so I need to devote some more energy to this project.

almost half done

In other knitting news, I have just a few more inches of knitting for the feathers cat toy and I am still looking for a stick. That's all for now, I'll see you again on Tuesday!

Over the weekend I went to Wyoming for a family reunion of sorts. I saw lots of relatives and had a great time. Here are some Hipstamatic photos I took, there aren't too many because I kept forgetting to take pictures! A few of the things I did: 1) My sister and I went fishing with our aunt and uncle. We caught lots of trout (and threw it all back); the little guy below was one that I reeled in, his colors were fantastic. 2) While at a rest stop on the way back to Idaho my mom and I picked some sage brush for smudging. 3) Of course we stopped at Little America for ice cream cones! I got swirl! Yum!
