Last fall I decided to try Ponoko.com to make a clock as a gift for my math nerd friend. I also made these constellation coasters.


These coasters are partial star charts. Stars are represented by the holes; larger holes are brighter stars and smaller holes are dimmer stars. I made two sets of coasters, a Northern Hemisphere set and a Southern Hemisphere set.

Week Nine.

These fabric flowers were made using this tutorial from Wise Craft. You can see the detail in this picture.

It took me a while to figure out what to do with these, but now I have a plan and you will have to wait a few weeks to find out what it is.

I also planted flowers this weekend.

This weekend was packed full of gardening. I made a container garden for my vegetables and planted lots of flowers.

In the front of the house we planted petunias, some primula, allyssum, and sweet william in whiskey barrels. Then in the back yard hanging planters we put sweet potato vines and a geranium.

More gardening news: the rose bush has buds now.

Week Eight.

This weekend I made my container garden for my vegetables!
Here is how I made it:
1. I purchased three 18 gallon plastic storage containers.
2. Drill a number of holes in the bottom for drainage. I made 18 holes using a 3/4 inch drill bit. - picture.
3. To keep the dirt from going through the large holes, I put a sheet of landscaping/weed blocking fabric in the bottom. - picture.
4. Fill container with soil and add plants. I also added some SoilMoist throughout the container to help retain moisture.

I planted three of each type of my tomatoes (big boy, supersweet 100s, yellow pear), some baby carrots, and some different types of lettuces!

When I went to take pictures of the vegetable garden yesterday afternoon I noticed that two of my big boys and all of my supersweet 100s were gone. I think Arlo isn't very fond of the location of the garden, off the side of the deck, and my little tomato plants became casualties when he jumped off the deck to go bark at the cats. I was able to find one buried big boy and 2 buried supersweets. I may be looking for a new location for the garden so the plants stand a chance at survival.

Allergies.

Every year about this time I get a sneezy, runny nose. This year I am using these cute hankies my momma helped me make to keep me from looking like Rudolph.

There are two designs: Snot Nosed Brat and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.
I sent my mom the design files, she made/burned the screens, then when she came to visit me, she brought the screen and supplies and we printed the hankies. I think we need to make more.
