Juniper Tree

Today I'm sharing my Craft Book Club project for Grimms' Fairy Tales by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm! Fun Fact (that I didn't know): Unlike Hans Christian Anderson who wrote his stories, the Grimm brothers collected and published folk tales. The stories I read were pretty strange; they had the standard evil stepmothers and murders/cannibalism, but also incest. My project was inspired by one story with an evil stepmother and some cannibalism: The Juniper Tree.

I went to a nursery and bought an old gold juniper bush, took it home and removed about 60% of the foliage, and planted it in a planter I had on hand. It is sort of a cross between a bonsai and a topiary, I need to get some wire to shape the branches and I still need to remove another half of the plant. So right now it is in it's awkward teenage years, sitting on my porch getting use to it's new home.

Today I have some more Craft Book Club projects from Wendy! She made a juniper bonsai for her Grimm's Fairy Tales project too! Isn't that panda figurine adorable? I love it!

And for Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld she made another jellyfish/Huxley airship:
