Ladybird, Ladybird Fly Away Home

I've started my Craft Book Club project for Born on a Blue Day by Daniel Tammet! When Daniel was younger he was very interested in lady bugs; he learned all about them, collected them, and kept them as sort-of-pets. It reminded me a little bit of my sister and I collecting roly polies for our "farm" so I thought it was the perfect time to finally knit Roland, but I've got a few other things I need to knit first so I decided it was actually time to make bug hotel!

To make the bug hotel frame I went to my dad's house to use his various saws and pieces of wood from his old fence. Upcycle! Hurrah! Here is what my bug hotel looks like so far:

It's a tall skinny house shaped frame with four shelves at various levels. I plan on filling it with a butterfly house, and places for ladybugs, mason bees, and lots of other pollinating/predatory insects! I also plan on decorating it to look like a row house, but am not sure if i should decorate a narrow side as the front or the wider side. Give me suggestions for paint colors and such in the comments below!

Our next book for Craft Book Club is The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger!
