I was planning on finishing up the crescent and half moons soon, but am rethinking my plan. A wire mesh piece is inside each to help keep them from breaking, but it wasn't full size. Should I make the mesh larger or skip the rocks for the others?

Broken Moon Phase Stepping Stones
This winter was tough on my moon phase stepping stones. They broke! One more than the other, but they did not hold up. This is what they look like now.
