Happy Birthday!

Today is my sister's birthday and I made her a special chocolaty chocolate ice cream cake. She l-o-v-e-s loves chocolate if you couldn't guess.

homemade chocolate ice cream cakeYou can see pictures of the layers and the top of the cake on my flickr.

Here is how to make one for yourself:
1. Bake a brownie in a springform pan then let cool.
2. Spread a layer of fudge over the brownie.
3. Pack a layer of softened ice cream on top of the fudge.
Hint: Use your hands. It will be a cold mess, but it works the best.
4. Crush Oreos and sprinkle them over the top.
5. Freeze.
6. When serving, remove the sides of the springform pan. It may be easier to cut the cake if it sits out for a few minutes to soften.

Variations:
This Cake is all chocolate: brownie, fudge, chocolate ice cream, chocolate stuffed Oreos. If you don't like that much chocolate, or chocolate at all here are some alternative ingredients. You could use a bar cookie as the base or bake your favorite cookie in the bottom of the springform pan. The center layer of fudge could be replaced with any kind of sauce, I think caramel would be very good. Toppings could be any candy, fruit or nut that you like, even drizzling more of the sauce on top would be good.

If you make your own ice cream cake I would love to see pictures.
