Wednesday I started the melon and squash seeds. My garden plans have already changed; I have decided to pass on the honeydew this year and grow an extra variety of squash. I am now growing watermelons, cucumbers, zucchini and spaghetti squash!
The bell peppers and tomatoes are getting taller and taller. Pretty soon I will need to re-pot them! I can't believe there are only four weeks until our last frost! I need to get outside to prepare the ground for my carrots, beets, and spinach!
In other exciting gardening news, I got a Naturemill Electric Composter for my birthday!
It has taken me a little while, but I think I finally figured out how to keep the correct moisture level in the compost. At first the compost seemed too dry then I got it way too wet, but it is finally at a good consistency. (I am still having to deal with the repercussions of not adding enough of the wood pellets for a short time - lots of excess moisture in the bottom chamber, but so far so good.) Here is a closeup of the compost. I think most of those black things are avocado skins.
