Strawberry Basket Cloche

The strawberries I planted have been doing really well. Last year I divided the plants and they were making lots of little strawberries; unfortunately the neighborhood squirrels really like strawberries and seemed to always beat me to the ripe ones so I bought some large round baskets to cover the plants so I could have all the strawberries for myself. This year I am giving the baskets a little makeover:

I bought some knobs to add to the top for handles and am spray painting the baskets a bone color. So far I have finished just one cloche; I only bought one can of spray paint which wasn't enough for all four of the baskets. Soon I'll have lovely cloches that will keep the squirrels away from my strawberries and lots of berries to eat!

My Fort Laramie strawberry plants have several tiny fruits growing and I just got a second variety of strawberries, Pineberry (pictured above); they are white berries that have a pineapple flavor! I'm very excited to try them!

Do you have strawberry plants and neighborhood squirrels/birds that like to eat from them? What do you do to keep them away from your harvest?
