Sourdough Pickle Buns

This month we read Sourdough by Robin Sloan for Craft Book Club. I loved the book and I obviously decided to make some sourdough. Instead of plain sourdough, I made some sourdough pickle buns. They smelled very pickley, but didn't taste it. To make the dough, I used a standard sourdough recipe and swapped out the water for pickle juice. So far I've eaten them plain, with yummy BBQ mushrooms and grilled onion (pictured), with blackbean burgers, and with meatballs and marinara. Since the pickle flavor is lacking, it tastes fine with most everthing. If I make them again I will add some small pickle pieces and hope that gives them more pickle flavor.
