Rhubarb and Garlic

A month has passed since my last garden update and things are growing. They are growing slowly, but they are growing. I planted my dahlia tubers just this week. I only took one photo of the bed after covering them with soil and putting wire over the top to discourage the squirrels from digging them up. These tubers were the first that I have divided and stored over winter and I did a pretty good job; most of the tubers looked to have buds. I'm not sure how many will actually grow, but things are looking positive. I have to say that the plastic wrap storage method gets a thumbs up from me. One of my orange cactus dahlias completely rotted, but the nastiness didn't contaminate the entire bundle!

My rhubarb is growing too! The plants are smaller than when they were growing in Nampa, but they are no longer in soft soil in a raised bed. They are directly in the ground in hard and very rocky soil and this is only their second year so I'm feeling positive about the future. The garlic has doubled in size and my seedlings are larger too, but have also been nibbled on by slugs or something. Another exciting thing is the snapdragon that survived the winter has gotten quite tall and has new buds! I looked it up and snapdragons are biologically perennial so as long as it survives the freezing temperatures, it might live for five years.
