Make Your Own Bike Bow Tutorial

Today I am announcing the winners of the bike bows and I put together a little tutorial so anyone can have one!

Thank you all for entering and the lovely comments. I ended up knitting a total of six bows (three pink, two green, and one yellow) so the six winners are: Wendy, Kari, Andi, Melissa, Nana, and Tommy! If you have a color preference let me know and I will try and accommodate it. Tommy, please send me your address using my contact form.

How to Make a Knit Bike Bow
First, gather your materials. You will need:
1. Bulky Yarn (I used Lion Brand Homespun Yarn)
2. Size 10 Knitting Needles
3. Scissors
4. Tapestry Needle

Knit a rectangle in garter stitch (or your desired pattern) that is 30 stitches wide by 40 rows long (or desired size) and a small rectangle that is 10 stitches wide by 18 rows long (or desired size). Weave in both the yarn ends on the larger rectangle and one of the ends on the smaller rectangle. Keep a section of yarn to be used later in this tutorial. (These pictures show the larger rectangle on its side, rows are vertical.)

step one

Stitch the top and bottom of the smaller rectangle together using the remaining yarn end to form a small tube. Weave the end of the yarn into your work and cut of any remaining length.

step two

Fold the larger rectangle in half.

step three

Stretch the small tube around the folded rectangle to make a bow.

step four

Adjust the bow so the tube is centered and the bow is straight. Turn the edges of the tube under a little to make it look pretty and add a little height.

step five

Thread the remaining length of yarn through the back of the bow and to attach it to your bike!

step six

This tutorial can be used to make bows in any size; I have used a similar method before to make a bow headband (with this same pink yarn).
