Bulbs and Other Garden News

It's the end of the season for most things I grew this year and my compost bins are filling up! Since my last post, I've harvested another bag of cherry tomatoes (most of which ended up molding, ruining my pasta sauce plans and making me sad I wasted them) and the rest of the melons. All the annual plants in my garden have been cut down and are now in my compost bin.

My paperwhite bulbs are refreshed after their summer outside and I'm ready for them to grow and bloom again! I've dug them up, out of the raised bed they have been living in, and put them into planters that I'll be able to take indoors as the temperature drops.

I've moved my strawberries out of their previous containers and into a temporary home for the winter. I'm planning on making a new strawberry patch next spring where they will have much more space to grow so the runners can spread out a bit. Right now they are in one of my raised beds and I hope they make it through the winter.

The containers that previously housed the strawberries now have flower bulbs (and hopefully flowers next spring/summer).

I've also separated my tiger lily bulbs and planted their bulblets. While replanting the tiger lily I found a mystery flower that I'm not sure has ever grown (maybe it is a winter flower that I've never noticed). I've also replanted the garlic.

It's a bit strange to see all my raised beds and containers seemingly empty after the jungle it was several weeks ago. Does anyone know to what kind of flower that mystery rhizome belongs?
