The cold frame sits atop half of my longest raised bed and most of the addition was built with the help of my father a few weekends ago. This weekend I finally finished it! (I needed a wider piece of wood for the ledge the two windows lean against and I bought/installed it Sunday.) Now I need to get seeds so I can actually use it.
In other garden news:
All the tomatoes are still growing strong. I'm going to finally do something with the plentiful garden huckleberries (eating them raw is not enjoyable so I may make jam or a fruit crisp or something). (NOTE: I just read that you are not supposed to eat garden huckleberries raw and if they have any green they may be poisonous. Good thing I thought it tasted horrible straight from the plant and spit it out.) The strawberries are escaping their rings and are taking over the pathways. I have two pumpkins that I'm afraid won't be orange before the first frost (I may need to cover them at night) and the birds are enjoying the sunflower seeds!
I have quite a bit of clean up work ahead of me before winter and I need to plant my garlic and any other spring time bulbs (I want lots more flowers around my yard). How's your garden growing? Let me know in the comments and share any recipes where I could use the garden huckleberries!
I would love some huckleberry jam.
ReplyDeletemay have to make some then.
