Other positive garden news is the new lavender that was planted between the strawberry beds are doing great! The smallest is bigger than the biggest was in the last update and the biggest has even more flowers! The strawberries are really filling in the two beds where they survived. I didn't snap a photo, but you can see some here and on the right of the lavender photo. I still need to cover that area with mulch.
I finally harvested my garlic; some of the heads are giant! The honey berry bushes are not looking good. The leaves are still being eaten by the creepy crawlies. I haven't been very good at continuing to put down diatomaceous earth so I'm not surprised, but I am a bit sad. Honey Berry bushes are deciduous so they should be fine, but if they don't I'll replace them with something that actually fruits! (I'm still bitter that they are four years old and I haven't gotten a single honey berry.)
Finally, I've already started making plans for next year. I realized that the things randomly growing in the yard were not corn, but millet (they are both part of the Poaceae family so they look kind of similar) that was dropped by the birds. A few of these randomly placed plants have matured and I'll be keeping the seeds to grow on purpose next year! My yard and garden is basically for the birds and the other animals.
I've still got lots of yard and garden projects on the list. As the weather starts to cool down I'll start checking more of them off the list again.
