Strawberry Surprise

Last year when I moved some strawberry starts into my new strawberry raised beds I figured I had picked the Fort Laramie strawberry plants because there were more of them, but to my surprise (I didn't get any berries last year) they are all Pineberry strawberries! They look so cute with the red seeds on the white flesh and I love the pineapple flavor! Realizing last week that I would be having lots of pineberries in my future was such a bright spot!

In other harvest news, honeyberries were again a flop as expected. I had a few berries that were fleshy and tart, but still on the small size; I still need to do some research! The rhubarb harvest was grand! I gave quite a bit away and made some compotes for myself. Now that the plants are mature, I need to figure out by this fall if I will be keeping all the plants or not.

Most of my plants are in the ground and I've already had a few casualties, but overall the garden is doing pretty good. There are pumpkins and broccoli in the first bed; the second bed has garlic, a tomato and two jalapenos; bed number three has Robin's Koginut squash, onions, and an empty place where the 898 squash were; the fourth bed has a gourd, Centercut squash, and unwelcome milkweed. I have a few other starts I need to get in the ground and several other things I should direct seed.

For the most part, the garden is doing pretty well; I even have three hanging baskets with some nice blooms! You can see more photos of the garden in my Garden 2020 Flickr Album.
