Soil Matters
There is now a major difference in growth between the squash planted in the raised beds and the pumpkins planted in the lawn and I'm blaming the rocky soil of the lawn for keeping giant pumpkins out of my life this year. The grass is basically longer than the vines and look at that tiny pumpkin, I doubt it will be even tennis ball sized by Halloween. I think a project for this winter is adding a raised bed or two (or more) so we have space for pumpkins next year! Pumpkins and flowers maybe. They are both very important crops in my opinion. I harvested one of the centercut squash yesterday and ate it for dinner and we have a few more types of squash growing! Raised bed is definitely the winner vs rocky lawn at my house. How is your garden growing?
