I still couldn't get any seeds to germinate, but I set up my new raised garden beds (a fantastic birthday present) and bought some plants. For my tiny vegetable garden I have zucchini and pie pumpkins (they have a bit of frost bite on the leaves now because we had some cold rain the other day) in one bed and a cherry tomato plant in the other. I am planning on putting some lettuce in with the tomatoes, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
You may have noticed that the cherry tomato plant pictured above wasn't the same tomato plant that I posted about last month. Well, it had a major growth spurt and when I was finally able to plant it outside it's stem broke about 30 seconds before I got it in the ground. I think it had to do with the wind and it's very long stem, whatever the reason I cried a little bit then decided to put it in a vase to see if roots would grow. It took about eight days for the roots to pop out; I'm not sure how long it will last, but I will be adding some soil to see if it will actually grow.
In the front yard garden the lavender I planted last year has probably doubled in size (they are still small) and are getting blooms! My strawberry plants have gotten so much bigger too, they even have some unripe berries! And I planted some impatiens because they are pretty and they did so well last year.
i want strawbabies!!!
ReplyDeleteChelsea finally planted some pumpkin plants this past weekend. I think that is all that we are planting this year. We were going to plant cucumbers again this year, but they haven't done well the past 2 years at our place.
