Loom Weaving #2

Over the weekend I finished my weaving! I can finally cross a resolution off my list! (This is the first resolution I've completed this year... I better hurry and finish the others.)

Loom Weaving # 2

After removing it from the loom, I notice the weaving is very floppy and has no structure. I am considering adding a backing to it so it hangs nicer on the wall. Any suggestions?

Weaving WIP

I've started on Loom Weaving #2, one of my resolutions for the year. This one is quite basic; I'm using two types of yarn, an off white and a thicker colorful roving. It is also going to be much larger than Loom Weaving #1. Here is my progress:

Woven Wreath

I've been working on this woven wreath and I'm just not happy. This is either my third or fourth attempt at this wreath and I think I'm calling it quits so I can use the yarn and wreath base on other projects.

Woven Wreath WIP

I'm really into weaving right now. During the last Crafternoon, Katie and I got together to make wreaths. I decided I wanted a woven wreath and am using a square metal frame as my base and am using blue yarns for the weaving. The progress of this wreath was further along, but I decided I was unhappy with it so took it apart and plan on starting over.

Brown and Grey Weaving

This is the first weaving I've made on my new loom!

It's made using a super bulky brown variegated yarn and grey roving. I'll be adding a stained dowel through the top loops to finish and I'll hang it in my living room as part of my himmeli heart gallery wall.

Do you have any suggestions for my next weaving? I plan on doing at least one more on this loom this year to finish up this part of my resolutions for the year.

Clay Loom and Weaving

A few months ago, Chelsea and I got together for a Crafternoon where we made things out of polymer clay. I made both the kitty bowl for my blogiversary giveaway and an organically shaped slab that I poked holes in to turn it into a weaving loom.

Weaving on a Clay Loom

After baking the clay slab, I painted it green with some pink flowers I learned how to make from our watercolor practice. Once the paint dried, I added my warp thread then got to work on the weaving, using bits of yarn/roving I had on hand. I'm not counting this as one of my goal of completing two new weaving projects this year since it doesn't use my new loom so expect to see more weaving projects!

Woven Pillow

I've finally finished the crochet and woven pillow! One side is a bit crazy with a few colors/types of yarn and different weaving techniques. The other is kinda plain with one color yarn and simple crochet stitches.

2018 Crafting Intentions

It's a new year! Happy New Year!
I did really well on my 2017 goals; I did better than expected and knit TEN hats for charity! I also completed my two "other" embroidery projects, but I didn't finish the cross stitch portrait I had planned though I've started it twice. I will be finishing it and another this year though.

2018

Half of my 2018 crafting intentions are finishing things that I've started. Not all the unfinished things have made my resolution list, just certain ones. I am however working on completing some more recently unfinished things (such as the cross stitch portraits mentioned above). Without further ado, here are my craft related resolutions for the year:

Finish that Knitting
Three items have been in my knitting WIPs for a very long time and this year I will finish them! The three items are this mixed up mystery scarf, my oversized knit purse, and the leopard hat from my 2016 goals

Finish that Quilt
The progress on my denim quilt is pathetic. I haven't come close to cutting out all the pieces let alone start sewing. This is the year I make a quilt! I have all the materials and just need to get to work!

New Projects from New Books
I received some new knitting and cook books and need to make at least one item from each of them! The books are Dandelion & Quince by Michelle McKenzie, Share by Chris Santos, 60 Quick Knitted Toys from Cascade Yarns, and The Beginner's Guide to Writing Knitting Patterns by Kate Atherley.

New Projects on the New Loom
Another present I received was a frame loom for weaving. Once I finish the woven side of the round crochet pillow I've been working on, I'll get started on weaving projects using the loom! I would like to make at least two woven pieces this year.

How well did you do on last year's resolutions and what projects do you want to complete this year?

I finished my weaving! I followed some instruction from 101 Things for the Housewife to Do 1949 by Lillie B. and Arthur C. Horth so that's one more project from my DIY books complete!

Weaving

Now I need to figure out where to hang it! I'm planning on rearranging the "art" on a few of my walls so I'll have to add this in then.

Weaving

Working on another project from one of my DIY books! This weekend I pulled out 101 Things for the Housewife to Do 1949 by Lillie B. and Arthur C. Horth to find something to make. Most of the projects are fixing things around the house (repairing appliances, mending clothing, etc...), but there are a few crafty things it has quick instructions for, one of them being weaving.

I pulled out an old bead weaving loom and am using leftover project yarn on this little project. It is turning out okay, I think I cut the fringe too short, but I may be making this a bracelet so it is probably fine. I don't have any design plans, I'm just making it up as I go; hopefully I like it once it is complete!

Yarn! Here are a few ideas from Lion Brand for using yarn to decorate your gifts. I tried two of the ideas, pom-poms and weaving:

Next week I am making hang tags and labels!
